Geek Festival, Les Menuires
A sunny ski heaven for the entire family — that is what Les Menuires calls itself. The views are incredible here in the French Alps, be it summer or winter. Located in the Belleville valley 1850 m above the sea level, it’s part of the largest ski area in the world, Les Trois Vallées. And even after you take your ski or snowboard boots off with relish, there’s lot to see and do in the village.
The beginning of December was marked with the first Geek Festival in the history of the resort. An video games and tech event, it offered games of all kinds installed both at the sports centre and right on the slopes. From Tetris to he latest VR innovations, one could plunge into any era of computer games.
However, the savvy crowd still found the SkyTechSport ski and snowboard simulator “a true sensation”. More then 120 people tried it in just 2 days, taking part in slalom competitions of virtual slopes or having fun on the endless track. Others were shocked to find out their own mistakes they had been unaware of, and we tried to correct their technique right away.
On the first day, we had a member of Les Menuires junior race team on the machine. Just the next day, lots of their blue jackets could be seen on the simulator and around the booth.
